Job Opportunity: ECMO Specialist (Registered Nurse)
Location: Columbia, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (4 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Must be an RN ECMO Specialist (Respiratory Therapy or Perfusion ECMO Specialists not considered)
- Minimum 2 years of ECMO Specialist experience with circuit management required
- 3+ years of CVICU/ICU experience preferred (may float to CICU/CVICU as needed)
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in South Carolina
- Minimum 1 year of CVICU experience within the last year
- ECMO ICU experience
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Required Certifications
- BLS (AHA or ARC, RQI acceptable)
- ACLS (AHA or ARC, RQI acceptable)
- NIH Stroke Certification (as applicable)
Preferred Certifications
- CES-A or E-AEC
- LVAD
Required Licensure
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for South Carolina
- Primary source verification required; license must have no pending actions and cannot expire within 30 days of start
Compliance & Background Requirements
- Driver’s license required for computer access and must be carried on duty
- E-Verify or attestation required
- 7-year background check within 12 months of start, including:
- Social Security trace with all aliases
- State and county searches for all places lived/worked in last 7 years
- FACIS Level 3 search
- Sex offender search
- International searches if applicable
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and every 30 days thereafter
- Fingerprinting required if lived/worked in WV in last 7 years or as applicable
- Education verification of highest level completed
- OFAC sanctions list search required for new/prestart candidates
- Drug screen within 1 year of start, updated annually (5-panel minimum)
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet job demands
- Respirator fit test completed onsite during orientation (N95 masks commonly used)
- Immunizations/vaccinations or proof of immunity required for:
- TB (True 2-step PPD, QF Gold, or T-spot within 90 days)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (if working in high-risk areas)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or 2 vaccines)
- Varicella (positive titer or 2 vaccines)
- Hepatitis B vaccination series, positive titer, or signed declination
- Annual flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required (not required for remote workers)
- TB questionnaire required annually
Orientation & Testing
- Online orientation modules must be completed within 72 hours of assignment (mandatory before start)
- Pre-assignment testing (medication and arrhythmia tests) must be completed within 72 hours of receiving login info; two attempts allowed
- Pass/fail testing required for medication and arrhythmia (passing score 84%)
- EKG practice test and study guide provided (required for most RNs except select specialties)
Additional Requirements
- Badge photo meeting specific guidelines required prior to start
- Floating policy acknowledgment required (may float to other units as needed)
- Core competencies training (Parts I, II, III) must be current and completed annually
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam required annually
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) or Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification as applicable
- Internal and performance evaluations required if previously worked with agency over 1 year
