Surgical First Assist

Job Overview

• Contract role
• 13 weeks
• 36 hours per week
• Day shift, 9 hours

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Wisconsin
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• OR - Operating Room (2 years of experience)
• OR - Operating Room experience within the last year
• CSFA or NBSTSA or ABSA or NCCSA
• BLS

Clinical Focus

• Ophthalmology cases: cataract, glaucoma, corneal surgery, vitrectomy, retinal detachment
• Orthopedic procedures: carpal tunnel, trigger finger, small joint fusions, ORIF distal radius
• General cases: mastectomy, breast biopsy

Schedule and Call

• On-call required on weekdays, weekends, and holidays
• 30-minute response time
• 6-week call rotation, subject to staffing needs
• 1 weekday call shift from end of shift until midnight
• 1 weekend call shift per month

Orientation

• 2 weeks, depending on team and shift

Work Setting and Support

• Level III trauma center
• Level III NICU
• Magnet designation
• Primary stroke center
• 636 beds
• Support available from charge RN, leads, and manager

Floating

• May cross-train to a urology center if skillset and schedule allow
• No floating to other hospitals or sites

• Surgical scrubs are provided
