Med Surg: Med and Tele
Job Overview
- Contract role
- 13 weeks
- 12-hour night shift
- 36 hours per week
- First-time travelers accepted
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Wisconsin
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- BLS
- Med Surg / Telemetry (1 year of experience)
- Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
- Experience in an Acute Care setting
Clinical Experience / Skills
- Med-surg experience
- Observation unit experience preferred
- Experience with admissions and discharges in a fast-paced setting
- Ostomy care
- Drain care
- IV skills
- Drip management for heparin, insulin, Cardizem, and amiodarone
Unit Details
- Medical-surgical and telemetry patient population
- Typical patients include chest pain rule-out, post-cath lab, CHF, AFib, stroke/TIA rule-out, post-IR, cellulitis, and AKI
- Rare surgical patients
- Most patients are ambulatory
- No ventilators or trachs
- Average patient stay: 36 hours
- Admit/discharge volume: 2–3 patients daily
Staffing and Support
- Day ratio: 1:4–5
- Night ratio: 1:6–8
- Charge nurse has a lighter assignment
- Unit secretary available 24/7
- Hospitalist available 24/7
- Respiratory therapy available 24/7
- Centralized telemetry monitoring with telemetry tech 24/7
- Phlebotomy support for peripheral blood draws
Scheduling and Assignment Details
- Weekend rotation: every other weekend
- No on-call
- Up to 7 days of requested time off may be approved
- 1 holiday per season
- Floating may include med-surg units and ED holding
- Orientation includes 4–8 hours of NEO orientation plus one full shift on the unit or based on experience

- Scrubs: any color except camo or denim
- Free parking in designated areas
