Registered Nurse (RN) - Rehabilitation Contract Position
Location: New York, NY
Specialty: Rehab Nursing with Mechanical Ventilation Experience
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Provide patient-centered nursing care in a rehabilitation setting, applying evidence-based practice and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality care. Emphasis on Relationship Centered Care, patient education, safety, and quality improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Deliver nursing care based on professional practice models, nursing theory, research, and organizational standards.
- Assess and evaluate patient needs using critical thinking.
- Collaborate with healthcare team to develop, implement, and evaluate care plans.
- Prioritize patient care activities including teaching, rounding, coaching, and discharge planning.
- Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, health promotion, and disease prevention.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Manage assignments within a Modified Primary Nursing care delivery model.
Patient Experience
- Role model Relationship Centered Care practices such as Admission Welcome, Bedside Shift Report, Purposeful Hourly Rounding, Medication Review, and Discharge Wrap Up.
- Respect patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs.
- Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- Use evidence-based practices to understand and improve patient perceptions of care.
- Address patient and family concerns promptly and escalate as needed.
- Demonstrate compassion, empathy, and active listening.
Quality and Safety
- Practice safe, efficient, patient-centered care and identify barriers to quality.
- Demonstrate clinical skills essential to patient safety.
- Participate in quality improvement projects, evidence-based practice activities, and nursing research.
- Follow institutional protocols to escalate safety hazards or gaps in best practices.
- Document nursing practice accurately to support quality and performance improvement.
Operations
- Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
- Coordinate supply and inventory management with nursing leadership.
- Escalate material or staffing shortages appropriately.
- Promote cost-effective patient care resource utilization.
- Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.
Professional Development
- Support clinical colleagues, patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Advance clinical competence from novice to expert level.
- Maintain a professional image and communicate with respect and empathy.
- Apply ethical principles in decision-making.
- Engage in lifelong learning, scholarship, and innovation.
- Participate in shared decision-making through specialty councils and committees.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Associate Degree in Nursing considered with relevant experience or active BSN matriculation.
Licensure & Certifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State, in good standing.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA).
Experience
- Minimum 2 years RN experience.
- Minimum 2 years rehabilitation nursing experience including mechanical ventilation.
- EPIC electronic health record experience highly preferred.
- Travel nursing experience preferred but not required for per diem positions.
Work Schedule
- 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each
Unit Information
- Average unit census: 21 patients
- Beds per unit: 25
