Description
Pediatric Registered Nurse (RN) - Contract
Location: New York, NY
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Provide safe, competent, quality nursing care to pediatric patients based on nursing theory, research, and evidence-based practice. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. Educate patients and families, prioritize patient needs, and support a positive patient experience.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Deliver nursing care using Relationship Centered Care principles and nursing process.
- Assess and evaluate patient needs; apply critical thinking in care management.
- Integrate assessment and intervention skills in nursing care delivery.
- Collaborate with healthcare team on care plans.
- Prioritize patient care including teaching, rounding, coaching, discharge planning, and delegation.
- Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, health promotion, and disease prevention.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and care team members.
- Manage assignments within Modified Primary Nursing care delivery model.
Patient Experience
- Role model Relationship Centered Care through admission welcome, bedside shift report, purposeful rounding, medication review, discharge wrap-up, and collaboration with physicians.
- Respect patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs.
- Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- Use evidence-based practices to understand patient perceptions of care.
- Initiate service recovery and escalate concerns as needed.
- Demonstrate caring, respect, empathy, and active listening.
- Support staff in evidence-based patient care practices.
- Conduct Purposeful Hourly Rounding addressing key patient needs.
Quality and Safety
- Practice safe, patient-centered care; identify and escalate barriers to quality.
- Demonstrate clinical skills essential to patient safety.
- Implement process improvement and evidence-based strategies.
- Participate in peer and institutional review processes.
- Collaborate on quality improvement projects and nursing research.
- Contribute to compliance with quality and safety standards.
- Apply high reliability principles to avoid high-risk behaviors.
- Report safety hazards following institutional protocols.
- Document nursing practice using electronic medical records to support quality initiatives.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse license in New York State.
- Pediatric nursing experience required.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications required.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred or required.
- Clinical competence in assigned nursing area; new graduates must have current knowledge of nursing process.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Proficient in English (reading, writing, speaking).
- Physical ability to care for acutely ill patients, including walking, standing, lifting, stooping, pushing, and responding quickly.
- Manual dexterity for clinical procedures such as venipuncture, urinary catheterization, and CPR.
- Proficient with electronic medical record systems and basic data entry.
