Registered Nurse (RN) - Cardiothoracic Surgical ICU (CSICU) - Contract
Location: New York, NY
Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM (11.5 hours per day, approximately 34.5 hours per week)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Provide safe, competent, and quality nursing care to patients in the Cardiothoracic Surgical Intensive Care Unit (CSICU). Deliver care based on nursing theory, research, evidence-based practice, and organizational standards. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Deliver nursing care using critical thinking and evidence-based practices.
- Assess and evaluate patient needs, integrating relevant interventions.
- Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, health promotion, and disease prevention.
- Prioritize patient care activities including teaching, rounding, coaching, and discharge planning.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Manage assignments within a Modified Primary Nursing care delivery model.
Patient Experience
- Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families, respecting cultural diversity and individual preferences.
- Perform purposeful hourly rounding addressing key patient needs.
- Facilitate patient-centered care practices such as bedside shift reports and medication reviews.
- Initiate service recovery when concerns arise and escalate appropriately.
Quality and Safety
- Practice safe, patient-centered care and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Participate in quality improvement projects, evidence-based practice activities, and nursing research.
- Follow institutional protocols to avoid high-risk behaviors and ensure a safe environment.
- Document nursing care accurately and thoroughly in compliance with regulatory standards.
Operations
- Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
- Coordinate supply and inventory management to support patient care.
- Escalate resource deficits to appropriate leadership.
- Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.
- Demonstrate cost-effective use of resources.

Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
- Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Minimum 1 year of travel experience required for Travel positions; not required for Per Diem roles.
