Description
Nurse Manager, Emergency Department
Location: Brooklyn, New York
Employment Type: Staffing - Supplier Sourced
Contract Length: Approximately 13 weeks (89 days)
Shift: Evening Shift (3:00 PM - 11:00 PM)
Exempt Position (no overtime)
Job Summary
- Full 24-hour responsibility for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care in the Emergency Department (ED).
- Oversight and direction of the ED nursing staff, including planning, leading, and evaluating nursing care.
- Foster collaboration and respect among healthcare team members.
- Weekend and holiday coverage as needed.
- Perform related duties as required.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Operational Performance
- Develop long-term unit staffing schedules and ensure adequate daily coverage.
- Monitor operational performance metrics including agency and overtime costs, vacancy, and turnover rates.
- Oversee daily workflow, staffing, orientation, training, and development of ED employees.
- Lead quality and performance improvement processes.
- Promote a collaborative team approach in care for ED and trauma patients.
- Support and interpret hospital policies and procedures.
- Monitor customer satisfaction scores and implement improvement plans.
- Track patient volume, quality of care, and staff performance to identify improvement areas.
- Maintain a departmental dashboard covering people, service, quality, and leadership metrics.
- Investigate and resolve patient, physician, and staff complaints or concerns.
- Ensure required competencies are maintained for self and staff.
- Participate in professional organizations.
Clinical Practice / Patient Care
- Collaborate with nursing leadership to establish nursing care standards and evaluate staff compliance.
- Keep nursing staff informed of relevant protocols.
- Maintain a safe, caring environment conducive to positive health teaching and maintenance.
- Ensure equal access to treatment regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, disability, age, or sexual orientation.
- Demonstrate ongoing self-development and stay current on clinical management and healthcare topics.
Management
- Participate in overall service planning.
- Conduct monthly staff meetings to address equipment, scheduling, goals, performance metrics, and staff concerns.
Human Resource Development / Management
- Educate and evaluate staff performance.
- Work with nursing leadership and HR to counsel, discipline, or terminate staff as needed.
- Educate staff on new and existing department procedures and systems.
- Maintain an atmosphere of respect and courtesy toward patients, staff, and colleagues.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
- Minimum of 1 year of recent Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience.
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
Additional Information
- Must have prior Emergency Department experience.
- Position requires creative skills and ideas to improve existing programs.
- Ability to complete assignments accurately and timely.
