Nurse Manager, Behavioral Health
Location: Brooklyn, New York
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Job Summary
The Nurse Manager is responsible for the daily operation and clinical supervision of nursing staff within the Inpatient Behavioral Health Service. This role ensures quality patient care aligned with regulatory standards and evidence-based clinical management. The Nurse Manager collaborates with leadership to oversee unit operations, performance improvement, compliance, and administrative functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily unit operations and staff management in collaboration with the Director.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory codes, and standards (including NY State Office of Mental Health, NY Department of Health, and other agencies).
- Coordinate interdisciplinary performance improvement activities and utilize benchmarks.
- Monitor admissions, discharges, and discharge planning for appropriate clinical management.
- Prepare clinical and statistical reports required by regulatory bodies.
- Lead operational management 24/7 and provide administrative coverage as needed.
- Maintain patient care standards consistent with nursing philosophy and ethical guidelines.
- Participate in continuing education to enhance administrative and clinical skills.
- Implement best practices and innovative approaches in patient care.
- Manage budgeting, supply, and inventory maintenance.
- Foster positive relationships with patients, visitors, and staff, demonstrating professionalism and respect.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Behavioral Health nursing, including experience within the last year.
- Master of Science in Nursing.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Crisis Management certification: PMCS or TRUST.
- Knowledge of quality improvement (QI) philosophy, models, processes, and tools and their application in integrated healthcare settings.
- Knowledge of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) methods.
- Knowledge of Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Managerial experience in adult and/or child Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP) preferred.
Work Schedule
- Day Shift: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday
- 40 hours per week
- Role is not eligible for overtime
Contract Length
- Approximately 13 weeks
