Nurse Manager, Behavioral Health
Location: Brooklyn, New York
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Job Summary
The Nurse Manager is responsible for the daily operation and clinical supervision of nursing staff within the Inpatient Behavioral Health Service. This role ensures quality patient care aligned with regulatory standards and evidence-based clinical management. The Nurse Manager collaborates with leadership to oversee unit operations, performance improvement, compliance, and administrative functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily operations of the behavioral health inpatient unit in collaboration with the Director.
- Provide clinical and administrative supervision of nursing staff.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory codes, and standards (including NY State Office of Mental Health, NY Department of Health, NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, and Administration for Children’s Services).
- Coordinate interdisciplinary performance improvement activities using appropriate benchmarks and data analysis.
- Monitor admissions, discharges, and discharge planning to ensure appropriate clinical management.
- Oversee budgeting, supply, and inventory maintenance.
- Provide 24-hour operational leadership and administrative coverage as needed.
- Ensure adherence to nursing philosophy, ethical standards, and patient care competencies.
- Participate in continuing education to enhance administrative and clinical skills.
- Implement best practices and innovative approaches in patient care.
- Support HCAHPS development with the team and service.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Behavioral Health nursing, including experience within the last year
- Experience managing a psychiatric unit
- Experience in managerial or leadership roles
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and crisis management certifications (PMCS and TRUST)
- Experience monitoring and facilitating compliance with requirements of NYSDOH, JCAHO, and other regulatory bodies
Preferred Qualifications
- Managerial experience in adult and/or child Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP) preferred.
Work Schedule
- Day Shift: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday
- 40 hours per week
- Role is not eligible for overtime
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
