Registered Nurse - Surgical Specialty
Location
- Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Job Summary
Provide nursing care under general supervision to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex on a medical/surgical unit. This role involves caring for inpatients pre- or post-surgical services, including some stepdown/PCU patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage an assigned group of patients, documenting responses to nursing interventions and changes in physician orders.
- Assist physicians with patient examinations and minor diagnostic procedures.
- Monitor physiological data and intervene as necessary.
- Administer medications, intravenous infusions, and blood products.
- Deliver competent patient care and communicate care plans to patients and families.
- Make referrals regarding patient care needs and delegate tasks to support staff.
Work Environment
- Med/Surg unit; no OR candidates accepted.
- Patient ratios: 5:1 for surgical patients, 3:1 for stepdown area.
- Care for patients with new drains, wounds, tracheostomies, ostomies, nasogastric tubes (NGT), or double lumen hemodialysis catheters (DHT).
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Oklahoma
- Minimum 1 year of Med Surg experience within the last year
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing
- Experience in an Acute Care setting
- Experience caring for patients with tracheostomies
- Experience caring for patients with ostomies
- Experience with patients with nasogastric tubes (NGT) or double lumen hemodialysis catheters (DHT)
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience
