Description
Registered Nurse - Med Surg/Telemetry
Location: Hattiesburg, Mississippi
Employment Type: Clinical
Shift: Day
Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 42 hours per week
Contract Length: 9 weeks
Job Summary
- Provide nursing care under direct supervision of Patient Care Coordinator.
- Implement nursing process: assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
- Collaborate with Patient Care Coordinator, physicians, and ancillary staff.
- Accountable for patient care and documentation.
- Support Emergency Department by holding patients; floated to Med Surg/Telemetry units as needed to maintain coverage and prevent bed closures.
- Not assigned ER patients.
Responsibilities
- Deliver age-appropriate care and intervene promptly when patient conditions worsen.
- Perform technical nursing skills including:
- Administering medications and blood products
- Starting and maintaining intravenous lines and Foley catheters
- Venipuncture
- Restraint application and monitoring
- Sterile dressing changes
- Complex and routine treatments as ordered
- Operate and troubleshoot equipment such as:
- Traction devices
- Wound vacuum systems
- Sequential compression devices
- Continuous passive motion machines
- Telemetry monitoring devices
- Blood glucose monitors
- Specialty beds
- Safely position and assist patients using devices like abduction pillows, splints, slings, braces, neck collars, walkers, crutches, and immobilizers.
- Maintain thorough, timely documentation and communicate effectively with healthcare team members.
- Promote compassionate care, teamwork, and customer service.
- Use supplies cost-efficiently and support timely patient discharge.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Mississippi.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience, with experience within the last year.
- Certifications:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Moderate Sedation certification
- Experience with Epic electronic medical records system.
Additional Information
- Schedule: 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM.
- Short-term assignment with an expected need of 8 weeks; may be reduced to 6 weeks with two weeks’ notice.
- Overtime modifier applies for extra hours worked.
- No scheduling restrictions.
- Scrubs color: Galaxy Blue.
