Registered Nurse (RN) - Urology Unit (Contract)

Location: New York, NY
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Provide safe, competent, quality nursing care to patients in the Urology Unit, applying nursing theory, research, and evidence-based practice within a relationship-centered care model.


Key Responsibilities

Patient Care

  • Deliver nursing care based on professional practice models and nursing process.
  • Assess and evaluate patient needs using critical thinking.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and evaluate care plans.
  • Prioritize patient care activities including teaching, rounding, coaching, and discharge planning.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, health promotion, and disease prevention.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Manage assignments within a Modified Primary Nursing care delivery model.

Patient Experience

  • Role model relationship-centered care practices such as bedside shift reports, purposeful hourly rounding, medication reviews, and discharge wrap-ups.
  • Respect patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs.
  • Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
  • Use evidence-based practices to improve patient perceptions of care.
  • Address patient and family concerns and escalate as needed.
  • Demonstrate empathy, respect, and active listening.

Quality and Safety

  • Practice safe, patient-centered care and identify barriers to quality.
  • Demonstrate clinical skills essential to patient safety.
  • Participate in quality improvement projects and evidence-based practice activities.
  • Follow institutional protocols to escalate safety hazards.
  • Document nursing practice accurately to support quality initiatives.

Operations

  • Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
  • Coordinate supply and inventory management with nursing leadership.
  • Escalate staffing or material shortages appropriately.
  • Promote cost-effective patient care resource utilization.
  • Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.

Professional Development

  • Support clinical colleagues, patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Advance clinical competence from novice to expert.
  • Maintain a professional image and communicate with compassion and respect.
  • Apply ethical principles in decision-making.
  • Engage in lifelong learning, scholarship, and innovation.
  • Participate in specialty councils, committees, and unit initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Current New York State RN License required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Minimum 2 years RN experience; 2 years med-surg or ambulatory care experience preferred.
  • Travel nursing experience preferred but not required for per diem roles.
  • EPIC electronic health record experience highly preferred.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate degree considered with relevant experience or active BSN matriculation.

Schedule

  • 5 shifts per week, 8 hours each (5x8)
