Infection Preventionist / QA Nurse
Location: Rochester, Minnesota
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing - Travel
Contract Length: 52 weeks (1 year)
Job Summary
The Infection Preventionist/Quality Assurance (IP/QA) nurse collaborates with leadership to develop and implement Infection Prevention and Control and Quality Improvement programs. This role focuses on reducing infection transmission risks and serves as a leader, educator, and consultant in infection prevention and quality assurance best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead activities to reduce infection transmission risk.
- Monitor and manage quality measures and indicators.
- Plan and evaluate educational and clinical training programs.
- Develop policies for risk management to protect residents, visitors, and employees.
- Utilize computer hardware and software effectively in daily functions.
- Work autonomously and as part of a team.
- Stay current with best practices through evidence-based research, regulations, and guidelines.
- Set priorities, manage workload, and meet deadlines.
- Communicate effectively and build partnerships across healthcare teams.
- Lead teams, committees, and workgroups.
- Work primarily day shifts with occasional evenings, nights, or weekends.
Required Skills & Experience
- Experience in training or teaching others.
- Ability to work independently.
- Strong problem-solving skills with ability to collect, analyze, and prioritize information.
- Ability to develop effective working relationships organization-wide.
- Demonstrated computer literacy and strong software knowledge.
- Strong project leadership, organizational, and planning skills.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Minimum of 3 years clinical healthcare experience.
- Experience with infection prevention and quality assurance.
Education Requirements
- Graduate of a baccalaureate nursing program accredited by ACEN or CCNE.
- If not accredited by ACEN or CCNE, at least 1 year of RN experience in an applicable care setting within the last 5 years is required.
- Experience as a Registered Nurse with at least 1 year in long-term care.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in nursing or public health.
Certifications & Licensure
Required:
- Minnesota Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) Certification (American Heart Association, Red Cross, or Military Training Network).
- Willingness to complete a basic infection prevention and control training course within the first 6 months.
- Certification in Infection Control (CIC) required within 3 years of hire if not previously certified, and maintenance of CIC thereafter.
Preferred:
- CIC Certification in Infection Prevention and Control and Health Etiology.
- Current board certification in Infection Control.
Additional Information
- This role is eligible for TN visa sponsorship, requiring state licensure and VisaScreen or equivalent certification.
- Flexible hours with primarily day shifts and occasional evenings, nights, or weekends.
