Job Summary

The Clinical Nurse (RN) provides safe, competent, and quality care based on nursing theory, research, and evidence-based practices. This role involves collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, patient education, and adherence to institutional standards to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care

  • Deliver patient care using the Relationship-Centered Care model and the nursing process.
  • Assess and evaluate patient needs, applying critical thinking in care management.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop, implement, and evaluate care plans.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, health promotion, and disease prevention.
  • Manage assignments within the Modified Primary Nursing model and allocate resources effectively.

Patient Experience

  • Model Mount Sinai Relationship-Centered Care practices, including bedside shift reports and purposeful hourly rounding.
  • Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families, considering cultural diversity and preferences.
  • Address patient concerns and escalate issues as needed.
  • Demonstrate empathy, respect, and active listening in all interactions.

Quality and Safety

  • Provide safe, patient-centered care while identifying and addressing barriers to improvement.
  • Engage in quality improvement projects and evidence-based practice activities.
  • Document nursing practices to support quality and performance initiatives.
  • Escalate safety hazards or deviations from best practices following institutional protocols.

Operations

  • Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
  • Coordinate with leadership to ensure adequate staffing and resource availability.
  • Facilitate patient throughput and document care accurately per regulatory standards.

Professional Development

  • Support colleagues, patients, and families in the care environment.
  • Advance clinical competence and participate in lifelong learning initiatives.
  • Engage in shared decision-making through committees and unit initiatives.
  • Incorporate ethical principles into patient care and decision-making.

  • Unit: 6W Medicine Unit, Mount Sinai St. Luke's
  • Unit Census: Average 22 patients, 29 beds
  • Staffing Ratio: 1:6
  • Schedule: 3x12 shifts with weekend requirements
