Job Summary

The Clinical Nurse (RN) provides safe, competent, and quality care based on nursing theory and research to a designated group of patients and their families. This role incorporates the tenets of Relationship-Centered Care and applies the nursing process to deliver evidence-based care.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care

• Deliver patient care using the nursing process, critical thinking, and evidence-based practices.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop, implement, and evaluate care plans.
• Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, health promotion, and disease prevention.
• Prioritize patient care, including teaching, rounding, and discharge planning.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.

Patient Experience

• Model Relationship-Centered Care practices, including bedside shift reports and purposeful hourly rounding.
• Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families, respecting their values and preferences.
• Address patient concerns and escalate issues as needed.

Quality and Safety

• Practice safe, patient-centered care and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Participate in quality improvement projects and nursing research studies.
• Document care accurately to support quality and compliance initiatives.
• Escalate safety hazards or deviations from best practices.

Operations

• Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
• Ensure appropriate use of supplies and escalate resource deficits.
• Facilitate patient throughput and maintain accurate documentation.

Professional Development

• Support colleagues, patients, and families in the care environment.
• Advance clinical competence and participate in lifelong learning.
• Engage in shared decision-making through committees and unit initiatives.

Additional Information

• Unit Census: Average 33.4 patients, 35 beds per unit.
• Schedule: 3x12-hour shifts.
