Registered Nurse (RN) - Cath Lab - Travel

Location: Morristown, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day (Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm)
Hours: 8 hours/day, 37.5 hours/week

Job Summary

Provide specialized nursing care in the cardiac catheterization lab, performing comprehensive pre-procedural assessments, patient monitoring during procedures, medication administration, and patient education. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality imaging and patient safety.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough patient assessments across all age groups (Pediatric to Geriatric), including medical history, renal function, cardiac status, and contraindications to contrast or medications.
• Perform direct patient care activities, including IV insertion and accessing implanted chest ports.
• Administer and titrate medications (e.g., beta-blockers, nitroglycerin) per protocol to optimize heart rate for imaging quality.
• Establish and maintain IV access for contrast administration, including use of power injectors.
• Monitor patients continuously before, during, and after cardiac CT angiography (CCTA) and other imaging procedures (CT, MRI, IR, ultrasound, fluoroscopy).
• Respond promptly to clinical changes and emergencies, including contrast reactions, following ACLS protocols.
• Provide patient and family education regarding procedures, expectations, risks, and post-procedure care.
• Document nursing care accurately in the electronic medical record, including medications, patient responses, and procedural details.
• Adhere to patient safety standards, infection prevention practices, National Patient Safety Goals, and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain competency in cardiac imaging and contrast safety.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in New Jersey
• Minimum 3 years of Cardiac Cath Lab experience, including experience within the last year
• Telemetry experience
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Strong IV insertion skills, including ability to access implanted chest ports

Physical and Professional Requirements

• Ability to perform safe patient transfers and use proper body mechanics.
• Maintain confidentiality according to HIPAA guidelines.
• Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
• Knowledge of emergency equipment and procedures relevant to the Cath Lab environment.

Additional Information

• Work schedule is Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm.
• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
