Job Summary: To provide hospital departments, including but not limited to, the Operating Room, Emergency Room, and Labor and Delivery with sterile instruments and trays. Direct and coordinate Sterile Processing Department’s staff in accordance with departmental policies and procedures through AAMI/AORN. Constant interaction with internal and external customers, including physicians and employees.

Required Qualifications:
- Certification in sterile processing
- Experience in preparation, decontamination, and sterilization of instrumentation: 2 years
- Graduate of high school or GED equivalency examination
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment
- Ability to communicate clearly and maintain effective working relationships
- Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures regarding decontamination of instruments, sterilization, universal precautions, and various hospital equipment
- Ability to monitor quality control throughout the department
- Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions using critical thinking
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks quickly in a fast-paced environment

- Requires full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination
- Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time
- Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds
- Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range
- Requires working under stressful conditions and/or irregular hours
- Potential exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, body fluids, and other conditions common to a hospital environment
