Job Summary:
To ensure that Respiratory Therapy services rendered, including the evaluation and treatment of patients, are completed in a timely, accurate, and reliable manner. Services are provided to inpatients, outpatients, UHS staff, employees, and affiliated UHS community groups as needed.

Job Responsibilities:
 

• Administer respiratory therapy procedures as directed by the manager.
• Perform Aerosol Therapy treatments, CPT/Flutter/PEP Mask therapy, Incentive Spirometry therapy, M.D.I. therapy, and Suctioning procedures.
• Conduct Extubation procedures and manage Oxygen Tank Safety.
• Perform Oxygen Therapy on all approved devices and manage BiPAP-CPAP therapy and alarms.
• Conduct Cough Assist/Vest therapy and manage High Flow Cannula/Humidifier therapy and alarms.
• Perform Pulmonary Function Screen diagnostic procedures and Fit Testing procedures in coordination with Employee Health.
• Conduct Pulse Oximetry, Adult EKG, and Pediatric EKG procedures.
• Perform Adult, Pediatric, and Neonatal BLS life support.
• Manage Mechanical Ventilation and Ventilator Alarms.
• Perform Arterial Puncture and Analysis for the Blood Gas Laboratory and ensure Quality Control.
• Manage patient healthcare information systems (Soarian), medication administration programs (MAK), and medication dispensing systems (McKesson).
• Verify physician’s written orders and perform pulmonary and cardiology diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
• Record and report results of all procedures appropriately.
• Abide by department Delivery Standards and maintain files and bookkeeping records as per policy.
• Assist in departmental in-service programs and perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
 

• Up to three (3) years of experience.
• Graduation from an accredited School for Respiratory Therapy.
• New York State Respiratory Therapy Permit or License.
• Registered by the NBRC as a Respiratory Therapist.
• BLS (AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross) and ACLS Certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).

Preferred Qualifications:
 

• One (1) year of experience as a Respiratory Therapist.
