Join our inpatient operating room nursing staff at University Hospital as a Clinical Nurse Specialist or a RN-Nurse Specialist! 100% FTE salaried position scheduled to typically work weekdays, day shift hours, however some off hours or weekends may be required. Hours may vary based on the operational needs of the department. You will primarily work onsite at University Hospital in Madison, WI.

We are seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to:

  • Provide clinical expertise and clinical nursing practice support to inpatient operating room nursing staff at University Hospital.
    • The inpatient operating room (IP OR) offers a robust, challenging, and gratifying work environment. Nursing staff in the OR care for patients undergoing complex surgical procedures and support Level 1 Traumas, transplants, lifesaving limb procedures, oncologic surgery, robotic surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, otolaryngology, plastics, gynecology, urology, among many others.
    • The OR is made up of 25 standard operating rooms, an intraoperative MRI suite, two neurosurgery/interventional radiology hybrid operating rooms, and one vascular hybrid operating room.
    • These operating rooms house cutting edge technology that allow teams to provide state of the art care to a vast array of patients. Teams in the OR harness technology, including two Da Vinci Robots, to serve patients with the best that the art and science of surgery has to offer.
    • The OR provides opportunities for evidence-based practice and involvement in quality improvement initiatives through collaborative decision making.
    • The OR has implemented Team STEPPS, which is a series of strategies endorsed by the American Hospital Association to improve teamwork and communication.
    • As part of a multidisciplinary team, nurses in the inpatient operating room address acute and chronic disease processes with impressive technology and surgical intervention. Together with partners in surgery, anesthesia, and surgical technology, nurses in the operating room truly provide Remarkable Healthcare.
  • Act as a clinical expert for specific clinical populations. The team requires a great deal of clinical skill, knowledge and logistical support; patients may be complex, therefore, a minimum of three (3) years of specific intra-operative/operating room nursing experience is strongly preferred.  Leadership experience is also highly preferred.

Pay:

  • Pay range is based on a full-time (100%) position.
  • Salary is prorated based on FTE.
  • Pay range listed is based on both job title pay ranges combined.

Qualifications*Please note there are two job titles with different qualifications listed below.
  • RN-Nurse Specialist:
    • Bachelor of Science -- Nursing (BSN) Required
    • Must obtain Master's degree in Nursing or doctoral degree (DNP) in relevant specialty within five (5) years of start date in the Nurse Specialist position Required

  • Clinical Nurse Specialist:
    • Master's Degree or doctoral degree in Nursing Required
    • Master's Degree or doctoral degree (DNP or PhD) with CNS role focus Preferred

Work Experience

  • RN-Nurse Specialist:
    • 3 years of relevant clinical nursing experience Required
    • Previous experience as a nurse specialist and/or nurse working in an expanded role Preferred
    • Experience in an academic medical center Preferred
  • Clinical Nurse Specialist:
    • 2 years of relevant clinical nursing experience Required
    • 3 years of relevant clinical nursing experience Preferred
    • Previous experience as a clinical nurse specialist Preferred
    • Experience in an academic medical center Preferred
Licenses & Certifications
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Wisconsin or holds a license issued by a jurisdiction that has adopted the nurse licensure compact Upon Hire Required
  • Basic Life Support CPR/BLS certification Upon Hire Required
  • CNS certification Preferred
  • Certification in specialty area of practice Preferred
