Description
The Endoscopy Technician / Gastrointestinal Technician assists endoscopy nurses and physicians in the gastroenterology (GI) specialty. The Endoscopy Technician / Gastrointestinal Technician assists patients who have stomach or intestine problems, or those who are undergoing diagnostic procedures and/or treatment for various GI related illnesses.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintains inventories of endoscopic equipment and supplies
- Performs safety checks to verify proper equipment functioning
- Collects and delivers specimens collected during procedures, ensuring the field remains sterile
- Prepares suites or rooms according to endoscopic procedure requirements
- Cleans, disinfects, or calibrates scopes or other endoscopic instruments according to manufacturer recommendations and facility standards
- Maintains or repairs endoscopic equipment
- Positions or transports patients in accordance with instructions from medical personnel
- Assists physicians or registered nurses in the conduct of endoscopic procedures
- Collects specimens from patients using standard medical procedures
- Performs other duties as assigned/necessary
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Endoscopy Technician Certification may be required per state/client contract
- One year of experience preferred within medical assisting, surgical technology and/or GI
- Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
- Participation and completion of Amergis’ Competency program when applicable
- Current CPR if applicable
- TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
- Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
- Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
- Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
- Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
- Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required
- Computer proficiency required
- Must be at least 18 years of age
