Registered Nurse - PCU (Progressive Care Unit)

Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Hours per Week: 36

Unit Information

Unit Type: Step-down and Medical-Surgical
Beds: 23 step-down, 16 med-surg
Patient Ratios:
- Step-down: 1 nurse to 3-4 patients
- Med-surg: 1 nurse to 4-6 patients
Staff Composition:
- Day Shift: 1 charge nurse, 11 RNs, 4 Patient Care Technicians (PCT)
- Night Shift: 1 charge nurse, 10 RNs, 4 PCTs
Equipment Used: Lifts, chest tubes, cardiac drips, stable ventilated patients, tracheostomies
Electronic Medical Record (EMR) System: Cerner

Typical Procedures

Tracheostomy care
Chest tube management
Wound dressing changes

Required Qualifications

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Experience working with tracheostomies

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience with Cerner EMR system

Work Environment & Expectations

Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs
Floating Areas: Other medical-surgical and progressive care units
Weekend/On-call Requirements: Approximately 6 weekend shifts (Saturday or Sunday) in a 6-week period
Desired Personality Traits: Flexibility and a high level of clinical competence

This position is ideal for an experienced RN comfortable with progressive care patients, including those with tracheostomies and chest tubes, who can adapt to a dynamic unit environment.
