Pharmacist Details

  • Full Time Schedules

Pharmacist Duties

  • Verify and dispense medications in accordance with prescriptions from authorized healthcare providers, ensuring accuracy and therapeutic appropriateness.

  • Oversee the accurate labeling, packaging, and storage of all pharmaceuticals, including controlled substances.

  • Manage the facility's medication inventory, including procurement, receiving, and ensuring compliance with formulary.

  • Maintain and review comprehensive and confidential patient medication profiles.

  • Conduct Drug Utilization Reviews (DURs) and Medication Regimen Reviews (MRRs) to optimize patient outcomes and prevent adverse drug events.

  • Ensure full compliance with all state and federal regulations regarding pharmacy practices, medication records, and dispensing.

  • Adhere to all facility policies and procedures, including stringent security protocols for medication handling and distribution.

  • Provide direct medication counseling and education to inmates on proper use, potential side effects, and importance of adherence.

  • Serve as the primary clinical resource for medication-related inquiries from medical staff, nurses, and security personnel.

  • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement effective therapeutic drug plans.

  • Supervise and direct the work of pharmacy technicians and other support staff.

  • Work closely with the facility’s medical and administrative staff to ensure effective medication management and patient care.

  • Lead and participate in quality assurance audits and medication reviews as required.

  • Respond to medication-related emergencies promptly and provide clinical guidance.

  • Participate in emergency preparedness drills and training specific to the correctional environment.

Pharmacist Qualifications

  • Licensed as a Pharmacist by the State in which the position is located. The license MUST be in good standing.

  • 1+ year of relevant experience as a licensed Pharmacist.
