Join our team as a dedicated RN specializing in MedSurg/Telemetry at a leading acute-care hospital in Charlotte, NC. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in a Level I Trauma Center and Magnet-designated facility, known for its commitment to excellence in patient care.

About the Facility:

  • 874 Licensed beds
  • Teaching Hospital
  • Chest Pain Center
  • Stroke Center

Unit Information:

  • Beds: 43 ED Beds and 20 boarding beds
  • Minimum Years of Experience required: 2 years Med/Tele experience (Resource Team)
  • First-time travelers: Not preferred but will consider (Resource Team)

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:

  • Travelers will most often be hired as Med/Tele RN to cover ED Holds
  • Trauma level 1 – GSW, Stabbing, MVA, Falls, Stroke, Heart Failure, Chest pain, patients requiring fluid resuscitation/blood products, COPD, Cardiac Cath pre, ETOH/CIWA, IVDA, mental health, Respiratory illnesses, GI Disorders and infections, Liver Failure, AKI/CKD

Patient Ratios:

  • RN: 1:5 max (acuity dependent)
  • CNA: 1:7

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (Resource Team requirement)

Skills Required:

  • General Med/Tele skillset: Stroke experience, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley insertion/management, etc.), PCA pumps
  • Medication gtt management to include: Cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, IVF

Support within the Department:

  • CNA – ratios vary
  • Receptionist/HUC
  • Charge nurse, 24/7 – may or may not have patients
  • Phlebotomy – peripheral blood draws only
  • IV/VAT Team
  • Resource Nurse – as available
  • RT, 24/7
  • Hospitalist, 24/7
  • Intensivist, 24/7
  • Telemetry monitoring/tech: No monitoring tech; nurses read monitors and respond

Technology/Equipment:

  • EMR: EPIC
  • IV Pump: Alaris
  • Med dispensing: Omnicell
  • Monitors: Phillips

Floating:

  • Will be required to float per region needs – will require floating to all facilities listed below, as needed, within scope of practice – DECLINE if not agreeable
  • Region 1 - Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, any Freestanding ED within Region, Lake Norman, Central Division (CMC Main + Mercy + LCH)
  • If floating mid-shift, Traveler will be paid for the time traveling between facilities (will remain on the clock)

Orientation:

  • NEO
  • 2 days departmental

Scheduling:

  • Weekend rotation: every other
  • No call for travelers
  • Holiday Expectations: Travelers will work 75% of holidays
  • RTO: Can approve up to 6 days off, excluding holidays – must add time to the end of the contract if unable to meet contracted hours
