Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced NICU Registered Nurse (Neonatal RN / Neonatal ICU Nurse) for a travel nursing assignment in Charlottesville, VA 22908. This travel RN role is ideal for nurses with Level III NICU experience (Level IV highly preferred) who are skilled in advanced neonatal care, ventilator management, and ECMO support. - Shifts: 3 x 12-hour day shifts (07:00 - 19:00)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Estimated Weekly Pay: $1,840 - $1,940 (competitive travel nurse pay)
- Weekend Coverage: 3 weekends per 6-week scheduling period; every other holiday
- Orientation: 36 hours
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum 2 years full-time Level III NICU experience required; Level IV experience highly preferred
- Valid Registered Nurse license (Virginia or compact state). Pending licenses accepted but must be active before start date
- BLS and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certifications required at time of submission
- Dr. Brown's Infant Driven Feeding Certificate required (pending certificate accepted at submission)
- Epic electronic charting experience required
- BSN preferred
- Must be able to float to PICU, Pediatrics, Postpartum, and Labor & Delivery (baby catcher) as needed
- Flu vaccine required (no exemptions)
- Professional references required
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to neonates and infants in a Level III/IV NICU
- Manage complex conditions including extreme prematurity, congenital cardiac anomalies, respiratory distress, sepsis, and multi-organ support
- Operate and manage advanced neonatal equipment: high-frequency ventilators, iNO, ECMO, Drager ventilators, and Arctic Sun whole-body cooling
- Perform and assist with specialized procedures: intubation, lumbar puncture, PICC and umbilical line placement, chest tube insertion, wound and line care, and accurate neonatal medication calculations
- Participate in admissions, IV placements, lab draws, post-operative care, and family education
- Float to related units within scope of practice when required
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including respiratory therapy, physical therapy, pharmacy, and social work
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in Epic
- Adhere to all facility policies, scheduling and time-off requirements
