Role Overview
Join a dedicated healthcare team in Lewiston, Maine as an Orthopedic Registered Nurse (RN) for a 13-week travel nurse assignment. This Med-Surg Ortho/Post-Surgical role focuses on post-operative orthopedic nursing, IV therapy, and patient-centered post-op care. Ideal candidates are experienced RNs seeking travel nursing jobs in Maine and comfortable working night shift schedules.
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license (eligible to practice in the assignment state)
- BLS certification required
- Minimum 1 year of previous nursing experience (med-surg or post-surgical preferred)
- Competency in IV medication administration, IV therapy, and blood product administration (blood transfusions)
- Competency in application of restraints, seclusion, monitoring, and care for patients in restraint/seclusion
- Must not be a previous employee of St. Mary's
- No actions on license or background hits
- Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of Lewiston, ME (travel nurse eligibility)
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver direct and indirect patient care through the nursing process in the post-surgical orthopedic unit
- Assess orthopedic and post-op patients on admission and throughout their stay; document clinical findings
- Develop and update individualized care plans in collaboration with patients, families, and caregivers
- Administer IV medications, manage IV therapy, and transfuse blood components according to clinical standards and hospital policy
- Provide safe application and monitoring for patients in restraints/seclusion and demonstrate competency with protocols
- Serve as Charge Nurse as required and coordinate nursing workflow during night shift
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiology, physical therapy, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal post-operative outcomes
