Emergency Room RN Job Requirements

• At least 1 year of recent Emergency Room, Emergency Department, or comparable acute-care nursing experience
• Active Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
• Current NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Current Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or Trauma Nursing Specialty (TNS) certification
• Education verification is required
• Strong clinical judgment, communication, organization, and collaboration skills

Emergency Department RN Responsibilities

• Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care
• Provide timely, evidence-based nursing care to patients with emergent and complex medical needs
• Administer medications and treatments in accordance with established policies, procedures, standards of care, and applicable laws
• Develop and execute patient care plans in collaboration with physicians, interdisciplinary team members, patients, and families
• Document assessments, interventions, patient responses, and outcomes accurately and according to department standards
• Educate patients and families regarding care plans, treatments, discharge instructions, and ongoing health needs
• Prioritize patient safety, recognize changes in condition, and escalate concerns through the appropriate chain of command
• Participate in performance improvement, unit practice, shared governance, and peer review activities
• Provide clinical expertise and support to other units or departments as needed
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to support each patient’s continuum of care
