Emergency Room Nurse Job Requirements

• Current, active Colorado Registered Nurse license or compact RN license
• At least 1 year of emergency department, emergency room, or critical care nursing experience
• Two years of hospital nursing experience preferred
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required or obtainable within six months
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) certification required or obtainable within one year
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification required or obtainable within one year
• STABLE and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications required or obtainable within one year
• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or a related field preferred
• Ability to successfully complete required background, health, and screening processes
• Strong clinical judgment, prioritization, communication, and documentation skills

Emergency Nursing Responsibilities

• Assess patients and develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care
• Prioritize care and respond decisively in a fast-paced emergency department environment
• Provide safe, evidence-based nursing care within professional standards and the Colorado Nurse Practice Act
• Coordinate patient treatment, transfers, discharges, referrals, and follow-up care with the interdisciplinary team
• Monitor patient progress and communicate changes promptly to providers and members of the care team
• Provide patient and family education tailored to age, culture, condition, and individual learning needs
• Identify and address communication barriers and psychosocial support needs
• Delegate appropriately to ancillary staff and contribute to a collaborative emergency care environment
• Maintain accurate documentation, patient confidentiality, infection prevention, and safety standards
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives, required training, and ongoing professional development
