Join an experienced surgical team as an Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN) in a high-volume acute-care surgical setting in Wheeling, WV. This on-site contract nursing opportunity supports preoperative and perioperative care across approximately 55–70 cases per day, including same-day procedures and overnight stays. Wheeling offers a welcoming Ohio Valley setting with historic character, scenic river views, and convenient access to outdoor recreation and regional attractions.
Operating Room RN Contract Details
- Location: Wheeling, West Virginia
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,200–$2,320
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks
- Contract Dates: October 26, 2026 – January 25, 2027
- Healthcare Setting: Acute-care surgical center and preoperative area
- Shift Duration: 12-hour rotating shifts
- Schedule: Three 12-hour shifts or four 10-hour shifts per week; daytime schedules may include 6:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m., 7:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m., 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., or 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
- Additional Scheduling: Occasional midnight shifts, rotating weekend coverage, and scheduled secondary call responsibilities may be required
- Call Response: Approximately 30 minutes when assigned call coverage
Operating Room RN Job Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in West Virginia
- At least 1 year of Registered Nurse experience, preferably as an Operating Room Nurse, perioperative nurse, or preoperative nurse
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Strong intravenous (IV) skills
- Knowledge of surgical nursing care and perioperative workflows
- Ability to support a high-volume surgical environment and adapt to rotating schedules
- Robotics experience or familiarity with robotic surgical procedures is preferred
Operating Room Registered Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive preoperative nursing care for patients undergoing a broad range of surgical procedures
- Complete patient assessments, medication reviews, IV initiation, and preoperative preparation
- Coordinate with surgeons, anesthesia professionals, surgical technologists, and other members of the perioperative team
- Apply sound surgical-care knowledge while preparing patients for same-day procedures and overnight admissions
- Support procedures involving robotic technology and other specialized surgical services
- Monitor patient readiness, identify changes in condition, and communicate concerns promptly
- Provide coverage for the OR holding area as needed
- Maintain accurate electronic documentation and follow established safety, infection-control, and patient-care standards
- Participate in scheduled weekend, holiday, and call rotations as assigned
