Join a 16-bed ED Observation Unit as a Travel Registered Nurse in New Haven, Connecticut. This 13-week night-shift travel nursing assignment offers competitive weekly pay and the opportunity to provide acute-care nursing for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
Travel Nursing Job Details
- Location: New Haven, CT 06510
- Assignment Type: 13-week travel nursing contract
- Assignment Dates: October 30, 2026 – January 29, 2027
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,090–$2,200 per week
- Nursing Schedule: Three 12-hour night shifts per week, 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.; 36 hours per week
- Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend
- Healthcare Setting: 16-bed ED Observation Unit providing non-admitted, observation-level emergency care
- Patient Ratio: Approximately 1 Registered Nurse to 6 patients on days, nights, and weekends
- Electronic Medical Record: Epic experience preferred
- Call: Not required
- Orientation: 36 hours
- Scheduling: Block scheduling may be accommodated based on department needs
- Travel Eligibility: Local candidates who live within 75 miles are not eligible for this assignment
Travel Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license; a pending Connecticut RN license may be considered if licensing timelines support the assignment start date
- Two years of recent emergency department or emergency observation nursing experience preferred; candidates with at least 1.5 years may be considered with qualifying Level I trauma or travel nursing experience
- Current BLS, ACLS, and TNCC certifications required; TNS may be accepted in place of TNCC
- Experience providing nursing care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
- Strong emergency nursing skills, including dysrhythmia interpretation, emergency medication administration, IV initiation, blood product administration, and care of patients requiring respiratory support
- Experience with Epic and Level I trauma, stroke, chest pain, or psychiatric care is highly valued
- Ability to float within nursing scope of practice to support emergency department and observation unit needs
- Ability to meet travel nursing compliance requirements, including required influenza vaccination
Emergency Department Observation RN Responsibilities
- Provide safe, evidence-based Registered Nurse care to patients receiving observation-level emergency services
- Perform comprehensive nursing assessments, monitor clinical status, identify changes in condition, and escalate concerns promptly
- Care for patients with stroke, overdose, acute psychosis, trauma, respiratory compromise, multisystem illness, and other emergency presentations
- Administer medications, initiate and maintain IV access, manage central lines, obtain 12-lead ECGs, administer blood products, and support emergency interventions
- Apply isolation precautions and maintain a safe environment for patients experiencing behavioral health crises or suicidal ideation
- Collaborate with providers, respiratory services, radiology, pharmacy, social services, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team
- Document assessments, interventions, reassessments, and patient outcomes accurately in Epic
- Provide clear patient handoffs and education while maintaining high standards of professional nursing practice
- Participate in scheduled weekend coverage and support staffing needs through in-scope floating when required
