Emergency Department RN Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,090–$2,200
- Specialty: Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ED RN)
- Assignment Length: 13 weeks
- Start Date: October 30, 2026
- Schedule: 36 hours per week
- Shift Duration: 12-hour nights, 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
- Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend
- Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:6
- Clinical Setting: Community Emergency Department with approximately 80 patients per day, 180 visits per day, and 49 rooms
- Charting: Epic electronic health record (EHR)
- Float Expectations: Cross-training and floating between campuses may be required within the nurse’s scope of practice
- Call: Not required
Emergency Department RN Job Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Connecticut or eligibility to obtain one; pending Connecticut licensure may be considered
- At least 2 years of Emergency Department RN experience preferred and required for standard submission; candidates with 1.5 years of comparable experience may be considered
- Community hospital experience required
- Experience caring for approximately 5–6 patients per assignment
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Current TNCC certification required; TNS may be accepted as an equivalent
- NIHSS, PALS, CPI, and ENPC certifications are valued
- Proficiency with Epic or comparable electronic health record systems preferred
- Ability to provide emergency care to patients ranging from infants and children to adolescents, adults, and older adults
- Strong assessment, prioritization, communication, and crisis-management skills
- Commitment to required weekend coverage and completion of pre-start learning modules
Emergency Department Nursing Responsibilities
- Deliver timely, compassionate nursing care to patients presenting with medical, surgical, psychiatric, neurologic, cardiac, respiratory, and traumatic conditions
- Perform focused and comprehensive patient assessments, identify changes in condition, and escalate care appropriately
- Manage emergency medications, IV therapies, blood products, central lines, arterial lines, chest tubes, and ventilated patients
- Support care for patients experiencing stroke, STEMI, seizures, overdose, respiratory illness, behavioral health crises, multisystem failure, and other high-acuity conditions
- Obtain and interpret 12-lead ECGs, recognize dysrhythmias, and collaborate with providers and the interdisciplinary team
- Assist with intubation, procedural sedation, splinting, wound care, phlebotomy, IV insertion, and other emergency procedures within scope
- Provide safe care for patients requiring psychiatric holds, suicide precautions, isolation precautions, or management of violent behavior
- Coordinate with emergency department technicians and support services to promote efficient patient flow and quality outcomes
- Document assessments, interventions, patient responses, and education accurately in Epic
- Float between designated campuses as needed while maintaining safe, patient-centered care
