Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) – New Haven, Connecticut Travel Contract

Travel RN Job Details

  • Location: New Haven, Connecticut
  • Assignment Type: 13-week Emergency Department travel nursing contract
  • Start Date: November 6, 2026
  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,090–$2,200
  • Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12-hour night shifts
  • Shift Hours: 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
  • Hours: 36 hours per week with guaranteed hours
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:6
  • Patient Population: Adolescents, infants, adults, pediatric, and geriatric patients
  • Emergency Department Volume: Approximately 180 visits per day across a 49-room department
  • Charting: Epic preferred
  • Orientation: 36 hours
  • Floating: Cross-training and floating between area campuses may be required within scope

Emergency Department RN Job Requirements

  • At least 2 years of recent Emergency Department RN experience preferred and required for standard submission; candidates with 1.5 years of comparable hospital experience may be considered
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in Connecticut or an active application in process
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and TNCC certifications; TNS may be accepted in place of TNCC
  • Community hospital emergency nursing experience required
  • Level I or Level II trauma experience preferred
  • Experience caring for patients with medical, neurological, cardiac, behavioral health, trauma, and respiratory conditions
  • Ability to provide safe, compassionate care in a high-volume emergency room setting
  • Flu vaccination required
  • Travel clinicians must be eligible under applicable local-candidate restrictions

Emergency Nursing Responsibilities

  • Assess, triage, and provide evidence-based nursing care to emergency patients across the lifespan
  • Manage patients with acute medical conditions, stroke symptoms, chest pain, respiratory illness, overdose, seizures, behavioral health needs, and traumatic injuries
  • Administer emergency medications, blood products, IV therapies, sedation, and other treatments according to provider orders and department protocols
  • Perform and monitor skills including IV placement, phlebotomy, EKG acquisition, central-line care, chest-tube management, arterial-line management, and care of ventilated patients
  • Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition, including dysrhythmias, sepsis, respiratory compromise, and neurological emergencies
  • Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapy, radiology, pharmacy, social services, IV teams, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team
  • Provide clear patient and family education, documentation, handoff communication, and discharge instructions
  • Float between assigned campuses as needed while practicing within scope and maintaining high standards of patient safety
