Travel Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) – Night Shift in Schenectady, NY

Join a high-acuity 70-bed Emergency Department as a Travel Registered Nurse in Schenectady, New York. This travel nursing assignment offers emergency care experience, a diverse patient population, and a supportive 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio.

Provide fast-paced emergency nursing care for medical, surgical, traumatic, pediatric, psychiatric, and other urgent conditions, with access to specialty and tertiary services. Located in New York’s Capital Region, Schenectady offers historic character, revitalized downtown attractions, arts and dining, and convenient access to Albany, Saratoga, and scenic outdoor recreation.

Travel Nursing Job Details

  • Position: Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Emergency Department
  • Assignment Type: Travel nursing contract
  • Location: Schenectady, New York
  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,250–$2,370
  • Start Date: October 19, 2026
  • End Date: January 2, 2027
  • Duration: Approximately 11 weeks
  • Shift: 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m., including a 30-minute unpaid break
  • Schedule: Approximately 36 hours per week; every other weekend required
  • Call: No call requirement
  • Scheduling: No block scheduling or self-scheduling; shifts are assigned according to department needs
  • Unit: 70-bed Emergency Department with an approximate 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio
  • Patient Population: All populations, including adult, pediatric, psychiatric, medical, surgical, and trauma patients

Emergency Department RN Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse license; New York RN licensure is strongly preferred for immediate consideration
  • At least 1 year of recent Emergency Department nursing experience required; 2 or more years strongly preferred
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross; PALS is required at the time of submission
  • TNCC, ENPC, and CPI certifications are preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work night shifts, every other weekend, and in a fast-paced emergency care environment
  • Ability to float to the Emergency Department Observation Unit when needed

Travel Emergency Nurse Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, timely, and compassionate nursing care to patients presenting with urgent, chronic, traumatic, medical, surgical, pediatric, and behavioral health needs
  • Perform focused nursing assessments, support triage, monitor patient status, and complete stabilization and reassessment
  • Administer medications, IV therapies, drips, and infusions according to established protocols
  • Start and maintain peripheral IVs, perform phlebotomy, and obtain and interpret EKGs within the scope of practice
  • Assist with patient transports, procedures, emergency interventions, and coordination of specialty care
  • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, technicians, behavioral health professionals, and other members of the interdisciplinary team
  • Provide care for patients requiring mental health crisis stabilization and support
  • Document assessments, interventions, responses to treatment, and disposition plans accurately and promptly
  • Float to the Emergency Department Observation Unit as assigned and support department operations during changing patient volumes
