Emergency Department RN (Travel Nurse) – Level I Trauma Contract in New Haven, CT

Join a high-acuity Emergency Department nursing team in New Haven, Connecticut, as a Travel Registered Nurse (RN) and care for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients in a Level I Trauma and Comprehensive Stroke Center. This 13-week travel nursing assignment offers guaranteed hours, consistent night shifts, and valuable emergency room experience across emergency and observation settings.   • Charting: Epic experience preferred

Emergency Department RN Job Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license; Connecticut nursing licensure or eligibility is required before the assignment begins
  • At least 1 year of professional nursing experience; 2 years of Emergency Department or emergency room nursing experience is preferred, and candidates with approximately 1.5 years in a comparable hospital may be considered
  • Level I Trauma Emergency Department experience is required
  • Current TNCC, ACLS, and BLS certifications
  • Experience caring for patients with complex emergencies, trauma, stroke, cardiac conditions, behavioral health needs, and multisystem illness
  • Proficiency with emergency nursing skills, including IV starts, blood product administration, dysrhythmia interpretation, emergency medications, ventilated patients, central line care, chest tube management, and isolation precautions
  • Ability to float or cross-train within scope to emergency observation and other assigned campuses as needed
  • Strong communication, clinical judgment, adaptability, and teamwork skills

Emergency Nurse Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, efficient, and compassionate nursing care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric Emergency Department patients
  • Rapidly assess, triage, stabilize, and monitor patients with traumatic injuries, acute medical conditions, cardiac emergencies, stroke symptoms, overdose, psychiatric crises, and other emergent diagnoses
  • Manage patients requiring advanced interventions, including ventilatory support, IV vasopressors, continuous sedation, arterial line monitoring, and emergency medications
  • Perform and document focused assessments, medication administration, procedures, reassessments, and discharge or admission planning in Epic
  • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory services, radiology, pharmacy, social services, and other interdisciplinary partners
  • Support trauma, stroke, chest pain, and high-acuity emergency care protocols
  • Provide care for patients in emergency observation and other emergency care areas while practicing within scope
  • Maintain a safe environment, apply appropriate precautions, and use de-escalation techniques when caring for patients with behavioral health needs
  • Participate in required weekend coverage and maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation
