Join a fast-paced Level I Trauma emergency department team serving adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. This on-site travel nursing opportunity provides exposure to complex emergency, trauma, and critical care in a collaborative hospital environment. New Haven is a vibrant, walkable New England city known for its arts, diverse dining, historic character, convenient access to the Connecticut shoreline, and proximity to major Northeast destinations.
Travel Nursing Job Details
- Location: New Haven, Connecticut
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,980–$2,080
- Assignment Type: Travel Registered Nurse contract
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks, with longer 13–26 week contracts potentially available
- Start Date: November 6, 2026
- End Date: February 5, 2027
- Schedule: 36 hours per week; three 12-hour shifts per week
- Shift Options: Primarily mid shifts from 3:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m.; day shifts from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. may also be scheduled
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Call: Not required
- Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:6
- Clinical Setting: Level I Trauma emergency department with an approximately 120-patient daily census and up to 300 visits per day
- Patient Population: Adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients
- Electronic Medical Record: Epic
- Orientation: 48 hours
- Scheduling: Block scheduling may be accommodated based on department needs
Emergency Department RN Requirements
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Connecticut; a pending Connecticut RN license may be considered if the application process has been initiated
- At least 2 years of emergency department nursing experience preferred and generally required for submission; candidates with 1.5 years of experience in a Level I Trauma or comparable hospital may be considered
- Level I Trauma emergency department experience required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and TNCC certifications required; TNS may be accepted as an alternative to TNCC
- Experience caring for high-acuity trauma, stroke, cardiac, neurologic, psychiatric, and medically complex patients
- Strong skills in emergency assessment, dysrhythmia recognition, IV therapy, blood product administration, and emergency medication management
- Epic documentation experience preferred
- Ability to float within scope of practice, including to emergency observation and other assigned campuses as needed
- Current influenza vaccination required in accordance with assignment policy
- Travel assignment eligibility; candidates residing within 75 miles may not qualify under the assignment policy
Travel Emergency Department RN Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients presenting with urgent, emergent, and life-threatening conditions
- Rapidly assess, prioritize, stabilize, and continuously reassess patients in a Level I Trauma emergency department
- Care for patients experiencing stroke, STEMI, respiratory failure, overdose, multisystem organ dysfunction, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, orthopedic trauma, and other critical conditions
- Manage ventilated patients, BiPAP/CPAP, IV vasopressors, continuous sedation, emergency medications, arterial lines, central lines, chest tubes, and blood products within scope of practice
- Perform and interpret 12-lead EKGs, monitor dysrhythmias, initiate IV access, collect specimens, and support emergency procedures
- Apply appropriate isolation, safety, and de-escalation practices when caring for patients with behavioral health or safety concerns
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory services, radiology, pharmacy, social services, and other members of the interdisciplinary team
- Document assessments, interventions, patient responses, and care transitions accurately in Epic
- Float and cross-train within scope to support emergency observation and other assigned emergency department areas
