Job Summary for RN - MedSurg/Tele (List Format): Facility Overview: - 874 licensed beds, Level I Trauma Center, Teaching Hospital - Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center - Traveler's permanent address must be 50+ miles from facility Unit Information: - 36-bed MedSurg/Tele unit (Resource Team) - Minimum 2 years Med/Tele RN experience required - First-time travelers may be considered, but not preferred Patient Population: - High acuity cases: spinal surgery/fusion, stroke, seizure, myasthenia gravis, brain tumors/lesions, altered mental status (AMS) Patient Ratios: - RN: 1:4-6, may increase to 1:7-8 during surge staffing - CNA support varies Licensure/Certification Requirements: - Active RN license - BLS, ACLS, NIHSS certifications required Core Skills Needed: - Med/Tele skills: stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube & drain management, NGT placement, foley insertion, PCA pump use, post-op mobilization, brace use - Pain management for acute/chronic pain, including opioid administration and management for patients with substance abuse history - Post-op neuro and spine care, including patient/family education - Medication gtt management: cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, IV fluids Department Support: - CNA, receptionist/HUC, charge nurse (24/7), phlebotomy, IV/VAT Team, resource nurse, RT, hospitalist, intensivist (all available 24/7) - Nurses monitor telemetry; no monitoring tech Technology/Equipment: - EMR: EPIC - IV pumps: Alaris - Med dispensing: Omnicell - Vital machines: Masimo (unit), Phillips (portables) Floating Requirements: - Must float within assigned region and scope of practice to multiple facilities as needed - Paid for travel time if floating mid-shift Orientation: - New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 2 days departmental orientation Scheduling: - 12-hour shifts: 7a-7p or 7p-7a - Schedule cycle: every 6 weeks - Every other weekend rotation, no call - Required to work 75% of holidays - Up to 6 days RTO (excluding holidays); additional time off must be added to contract end Other Notes: - No more than 2 call-offs per 13-week contract - Scrub color: Navy - Free parking - Unit culture values teamwork, positive attitudes, real-time feedback - Focus on high-quality care and prevention of CAUTI, HAPI, falls, and CLABSI
