Job Summary (List Format) for Staff RN – Med/Surg:

- Provide safe, direct nursing care to assigned patients within the Med/Surg unit.
- Perform initial patient assessments and develop individualized care plans.
- Implement and evaluate nursing interventions, adjusting care plans as necessary.
- Accurately document all patient care activities and information.
- Monitor patient vital signs and assess changes in condition using clinical judgment.
- Administer medications safely, adhering to the 5 Rights of medication administration.
- Manage patient admissions, discharges, hourly rounding, care plans, and patient education.
- Participate in bedside shift reports, ensuring patient involvement and safety.
- Delegate appropriate care tasks to healthcare team members and verify completion.
- Maintain patient safety through fall prevention, pressure ulcer prevention, isolation protocols, and safe ambulation.
- Respond promptly to patient call lights and address patient needs.
- Ensure completion of physician orders and coordinate diagnostic tests and treatments.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team for effective communication and patient care.
- Support efficient admission and discharge processes, especially for observation patients.
- Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with Med/Surg RN standards.
- Report safety hazards/incidents and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Engage in continuing professional development and maintain required competencies.
