Job Summary

The Staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver responsible for a designated group of patients during an assigned time frame. The RN provides safe, effective, and patient-centered care through the nursing process while utilizing current nursing practices, technology, and available financial and human resources in accordance with the institution’s philosophy.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform all nursing responsibilities and duties required by the unit within the scope of service.
• Implement procedures, standards, and theories related to the specific area of practice.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care provided to support effective communication among the healthcare team.
• Complete initial patient assessments upon admission and develop individualized plans of care based on patient and family needs.
• Implement nursing interventions, care plans, and patient care procedures.
• Continuously evaluate and modify the plan of care as patient conditions change.
• Promote patient and employee safety by identifying, reporting, and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members and address issues professionally.
• Provide constructive feedback and collaborate with colleagues to support professional development and knowledge sharing.
• Identify individual learning needs and take initiative to address them.
• Complete all required departmental competencies.
• Monitor EMU patients 24/7 for seizure activity.
• Promote effective patient/family communication through meaningful hourly rounding, bedside shift reports, and patient whiteboards.
• Collaborate with the Critical Care Team in caring for Advanced Care patients.
• Collaborate with Hospitalists in caring for Advanced Care patients.

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum 3 years of relevant nursing experience.

Education

Required:

• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN)

Preferred:

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Required Certifications & Licensure

• Active Illinois RN License in good standing
• BLS – American Heart Association
• ACLS – American Heart Association
