Description
Start Date: August 24, 2026
Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants (reduced local rate applies to candidates residing within 50 miles)
Schedule: Alternating 12-hour shifts (6:45am-7:15pm and 6:45pm-7:15am), rotating day/night based on unit needs; every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday); 1 holiday required
Highlights:
- High-acuity CVICU specializing in complex cardiac surgery, heart/lung transplant, advanced heart failure, and cardiogenic shock patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2-3 in a 25-bed unit at a 926-bed flagship academic medical center and Level I Trauma Center
- Epic charting system experience required; 36 hours of orientation provided
- Advanced critical care skills including ECMO, IABP, Impella, VAD management, and open chest post-operative care
- Auto offer position with 48-hour manager review; first-time travelers and local candidates accepted
- May float to other Adult ICU or Telemetry units when census is low
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
- PA Single State or Compact RN license (must be held at time of submission)
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications
- Minimum 2 years of recent acute care experience
- Epic EMR experience required
- PA fingerprints and childline clearance required (results may take up to 2 weeks; must complete at earliest available date)
- Comprehensive cardiovascular critical care skills including hemodynamic monitoring, ventilator management, cardiac surgery care (CABG, valve repair/replacement, TAVR), vasoactive drip titration, CVVHD/CRRT, and management of multisystem organ dysfunction
- Pass/Fail clinical exam required for clearance (3 attempts maximum)

Pros
Some of the nurses in the MICU are some of the best people I have ever met. Very high acuity patients but I learned a lot. Amazing teamwork and camaraderie
Cons
The facility is literally falling apart and staffing is terrible sometimes. Management is not as great and supportive as it used to be. Patient population can be difficult to work with (lots of ETOH, withdrawal, ODs, etc)
