Description
Start Date: September 14, 2026
Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants
Schedule: 12-hour shifts, day or night (7:00am-7:30pm or 7:00pm-7:30am), Monday through Friday with every other weekend required
Highlights:
- Mixed acuity unit providing general medical to step-down intermediate care for pediatric patients
- Diverse patient population including neurology, diabetic, nephrology, spinal fusion, and respiratory cases
- Experience with pulmonary diagnoses, respiratory failure, tracheostomy, ventilator management, CPAP, and BiPAP
- Epic EMR system; telemetry monitoring on the unit
- Comprehensive interdisciplinary support including IV teams, respiratory services, physical therapy, pharmacy, and rapid response teams
- Magnet-designated pediatric facility with Level One Trauma Center designation
Requirements:
- Active RN license
- Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Medical-Surgical experience required
- BLS and PALS certification (American Heart Association only)
- Epic charting system experience required
- Trauma Level I experience preferred
- 3:1 patient ratio experience
- Must successfully pass telemetry exam prior to start date with strict passing criteria
- Floating to other units as needed
Clinical Skills:
- Proficiency in pediatric dosage calculations, IV starts and maintenance, central line care, and peripheral line management
- Experience with tracheostomy care, ventilator management, chest tube management, and oxygen delivery systems
- Knowledge of insulin administration, TPN/Lipids, isolation precautions, and infection prevention
- Competency in telemetry interpretation, dysrhythmia management, and seizure disorder care
- Ability to care for patients with neuromuscular disease, renal failure, and respiratory conditions
Patient Population:
- Infants, pediatrics, and adolescents
- Neurology patients including seizure disorders and neuromuscular disease
- Diabetic patients with DKA and new onset diabetes management
- Nephrology patients including kidney transplants
- Post-operative spinal fusion patients
- Respiratory patients requiring ventilator support or transitioning home with new tracheostomy
