Job Opportunity – Pediatric Medical-Surgical / Step-Down RN – Wisconsin

Start Date: September 2026

Location: Madison, Wisconsin

Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants

Schedule: 12-hour shifts (7:00am-7:30pm or 7:00pm-7:30am), Monday through Friday with every other weekend required. 36 hours of orientation provided.

Highlights:

• Mixed acuity pediatric unit combining general medical-surgical and intermediate step-down care
• Diverse patient population including neurology, diabetic ketoacidosis, nephrology (including transplants), spinal fusion, and respiratory patients
• Experience with pulmonary diagnoses, respiratory failure, tracheostomy, ventilator management, CPAP, and BIPAP required
• Epic EMR system utilized; telemetry monitoring on unit
• Magnet-designated facility with Level One Pediatric Trauma Center
• Comprehensive interdisciplinary support including IV teams, respiratory services, physical therapy, pharmacy, and rapid response teams

Requirements:

• Active RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of recent Pediatric Medical-Surgical experience required
• BLS and PALS certifications (American Heart Association only)
• Epic charting experience required
• Patient ratio experience of 1:3 preferred
• Trauma Level I experience preferred
• Must successfully pass telemetry competency exam prior to start date with strict passing criteria (80% overall; 100% on lethal rhythms)
• Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions available)
• Must reside 50+ miles from facility

Clinical Skills:

• Pediatric step-down and telemetry monitoring experience
• Tracheostomy care and ventilator management
• Central line care, arterial lines, and chest tube management
• Administration of blood products, TPN/lipids, and insulin pumps
• Seizure management and anti-seizure medications
• BiPAP/CPAP management and oxygen delivery systems
• Pediatric dosage calculations and PEWS/Rapid Response protocols
• NG tube insertion/management and feeding support
• Wound assessment and care

Patient Population:

• Infants, pediatrics, and adolescents
• Neurology patients including seizure disorders and neuromuscular disease
• Diabetic patients with acute DKA and new-onset diabetes management
• Nephrology patients including kidney transplant recipients
• Post-surgical spinal fusion patients
• Respiratory patients requiring invasive and non-invasive ventilatory support
• Asthma and general medical-surgical diagnoses
