Opportunity:

RN - Stepdown

Job Details:

• Work 12-hour night shifts from 6:45 PM to 6:45 AM
• Every other weekend requirement
• Must be flexible to work holidays and days around holidays
• Cancellation policy: 12 hours every 2 weeks
• Patient ratio of 1 to 5 with nurse aide support at 1 to 10
• 44-bed unit with 8 semiprivate rooms (16 beds)
• Unit serves as cardiac stepdown including cardiothoracic and cardiovascular surgery patients, smaller procedures, drips, and CHF patients
• Common diagnoses include post-operative CABG, cardiovascular surgeries, fem pops, arteriograms, CEA, thoracotomy, VATS, EVARS, AAA repairs, carotid endarterectomies, stents, pacemakers, ablations, AICD, CHF, AFib with RVR, and chest tubes
• Must read and interpret telemetry strips using Phillips monitoring system
• Experience managing drips required including Cardizem (titrated), amiodarone, dobutamine, dopamine renal dose, Lasix, Bumex, heparin, Primacor, and Vaprosol
• Ventilator experience required including BiPAP, CPAP, Vapotherm, and high flow oxygen (no full vents)
• May float to ICU; will only take stepdown-level patients unless ICU experience is noted
• If unable to take ICU-level patients, may be asked to task in the ICU
• Ability to pull pacer wires preferred; orientation to pull pacer wires will be provided if needed
• Fast room turnover expected with average census of 32-38 patients and 12-16 discharges and admissions on a busy shift
• 3-shift floor-specific orientation provided
• Charting system: MEDITECH
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS (AHA), NIHSS preferred
• Scrub color: Caribbean Blue
• Dress code: Natural colored hair required, no fake nails or shellac, no facial piercings, no visible tattoos
• Minimum 2 years of stepdown experience in an acute care setting required
• Must reside more than 75 miles from the facility as verified by driver's license address

This acute care facility operates a 44-bed cardiology stepdown unit providing comprehensive cardiac and cardiovascular surgical care. The facility offers robust around-the-clock support services including in-house hospitalist and intensivist coverage 24/7, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, a PICC team, and an on-site ICU. The organization is equipped with modern cardiac monitoring technology and supports a high-acuity patient population with a strong focus on cardiovascular and thoracic care.
