Telemetry Float Pool Travel Nurse Opportunity
Location: Chandler, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
Seeking experienced nurses with 2+ years of current telemetry experience for a travel contract in a hospital telemetry float pool. Candidates must have active BLS, ACLS, and Arizona license or compact license.
Key Requirements:
- Ability to titrate cardiac drips (Amio, Cardene, Nitro, Heparin, Dobutamine to titrate down only)
- Pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to contract signing (2 attempts max)
- Pass a pass/fail simulation lab on day 1 of orientation
- COVID vaccine required or approved declination form
- Frequent floating between units and between two campuses (9 miles apart)
- Must be able to interpret EKGs
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) for Neuro unit
Floating and Units
Floating is required and may include:
- ICU
- Cardiac Telemetry
- All Telemetry units
- Medical-Surgical units
- Observation floor, Cath Lab, ER, hallways
- Floating between Chandler and Mercy Gilbert campuses (approx. 15 minutes travel)
Notification of unit and campus given 1.5 hours before shift start. Mid-shift floating possible. Must clock out/in when changing campuses.
Unit Details
Telemetry B3A (Cardiac Telemetry)
- Beds: 32
- Ratios: 1:3-4
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Scrub Color: Navy
- Telemetry: Centralized monitoring; RN must interpret EKGs
- Ventilators: No
- Hospitalist coverage: Day rounds and on-call at night
- Respiratory Therapy: 24/7
- Pharmacy: 24/7
- Shifts: 12 hours (7am-7pm)
- Floating: To similar or lower acuity units
- Orientation: 2 days floor-specific
- Patient Types: Post cath lab, post vascular procedures, day 2 CABG, general telemetry
- Age: 15 years and older
Tele Neuro (Neuro Telemetry)
- Beds: 28
- Ratios: 1:3-4
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Scrub Color: Navy
- Telemetry: Centralized monitoring; RN must interpret EKGs
- Ventilators: No
- Hospitalist coverage: Day rounds and on-call at night
- Respiratory Therapy: 24/7
- Pharmacy: 24/7
- Shifts: 12 hours (7am-7pm)
- Orientation: 2 days floor-specific
- Patient Types: Neuro post-surgical, post craniotomy, spine, CVA post TPA
- Additional: No ICP monitoring
Medical-Surgical C5
- Beds: 32 (Ortho, Surgical, Oncology)
- Ratios: 1:4 (days and nights)
- Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period (days Sat/Sun, nights Fri/Sat), plus one major and one minor holiday
- Scrub Color: Navy
- Telemetry: GE monitors with central monitoring tech
- Ventilators: N/A
- Hospitalist coverage: Physician must be called
- Respiratory Therapy: 24/7
- Pharmacy: 24/7 (ICU pharmacist coverage on days)
- Shifts: 12 hours (7am-7pm)
- Floating: To MedSurg Tele B2C and B2D
- Orientation: 2 shifts floor-specific
- Patient Types: 80% Surgical (including ortho knee/hip program), 20% Oncology, urological, abdominal, Whipple, women's surgeries (no OB/GYN)
- Additional: Spectralink phones (call light attached to phone)
Medical-Surgical B2C
- Beds: 29
- Ratios: 1:4 (days and nights)
- Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period (days Sat/Sun, nights Fri/Sat), plus one major and one minor holiday
- Scrub Color: Navy
- Telemetry: GE monitors with central monitoring tech
- Ventilators: N/A
- Hospitalist coverage: Physician must be called
- Respiratory Therapy: 24/7
- Pharmacy: 24/7 (ICU pharmacist coverage on days)
- Shifts: 12 hours (7am-7pm)
- Floating: To MedSurg Tele C5 and B2D
- Orientation: 2 shifts floor-specific
- Patient Types: General MedSurg patients requiring telemetry; Amio, Cardizem titrate down only
- Additional: Spectralink phones; designated new grad training unit with clinical scholar mentorship for 4 weeks; first to float; must work 2 of 3 major holidays
Additional Notes
- Charge nurses on all units do not take patient assignments
- Clinical supervisors and unit supervisors are present in management roles
- PCTs available with ratios approximately 1 per 16 patients
- No pediatric patients; minimum patient age 15 years
- 12-hour shifts, typically 7am-7pm
- Centralized telemetry monitoring on Tele units
- Respiratory therapy and pharmacy available 24/7
- Must be comfortable with frequent floating and variable patient acuity
This position is ideal for telemetry nurses who are flexible, experienced in cardiac drip titration, and comfortable working across multiple units and campuses.
