Telemetry Float Pool Travel Nurse Opportunity
Location: Chandler, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
Seeking experienced nurses with 2+ years of current telemetry experience for a travel contract in a hospital telemetry float pool. Candidates must have active BLS, ACLS, and Arizona license or compact license. Ability to titrate cardiac drips is required.
Travelers will float frequently between two campuses (9 miles apart), including various telemetry and med-surg units, ICU, Cath Lab, ER, observation floor, and other holding areas. Floating notifications are given 1.5 hours before shift start; mid-shift floating possible.
Requirements
- 2+ years telemetry nursing experience
- Active BLS, ACLS, and AZ license or compact license
- Must be able to titrate cardiac drips (Amio, Cardene, Nitro, Heparin, Dobutamine to titrate down only)
- Pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to contract signing (max 2 attempts)
- Pass a pass/fail simulation lab on day 1 of orientation
- COVID vaccine required or approved declination form
- Ability to interpret EKGs (centralized telemetry monitoring)
- Willingness to float to multiple units and campuses
- Must be 15 years or older patients only (no pediatrics)

Telemetry B3A (Cardiac Telemetry)
- Beds: 32
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3-4
- Charge nurse present (no patient assignment)
- PCT ratio: 1 per 16 patients
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- Scrub color: Navy
- Ventilator patients: No
- Hospitalist rounds during day, on-call at night
- Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy available 24/7
- Shifts: 12 hours (7am-7pm)
- Floating: To similar or lower acuity units
- Orientation: 2 days floor-specific
- Common patients: Post cath lab, post vascular procedures, day 2 CABG, general telemetry
- Drips: Amio, Cardene, Nitro, Heparin, Dobutamine (titrate down only)
Tele Neuro (A3 Neuro)
- Beds: 28
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3-4
- Charge nurse present (no patient assignment)
- PCT ratio: 1 per 16 patients
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- Scrub color: Navy
- Ventilator patients: No
- Hospitalist rounds during day, on-call at night
- Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy available 24/7
- Shifts: 12 hours (7am-7pm)
- Orientation: 2 days floor-specific
- Common patients: Neuro post-surgical, post craniotomy, spine, CVAs post TPA
- No ICP monitoring
Medical-Surgical C5
- Beds: 32 (Ortho, Surgical, Oncology)
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4 (days and nights)
- Charge nurse present (no patient assignment)
- PCTs on days; 1 PCT or Task RN at night
- Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period (Sat/Sun days, Fri/Sat nights), plus 1 major and 1 minor holiday
- Scrub color: Navy
- Telemetry: GE monitors with central monitoring tech
- Ventilator patients: No
- Hospitalist must be called for physician orders
- No IV team; House SWAT nurse available for difficult IV sticks
- Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy available 24/7
- Shifts: 12 hours (7am-7pm)
- Floating: To MedSurg Tele B2C and B2D
- Orientation: 2 shifts floor-specific
- Common patients: 80% surgical, 20% oncology; ortho knee/hip program; urological, abdominal, Whipple, women's surgeries (no OB/GYN)
- Additional: Spectralink phones (call light attached to phone)
Medical-Surgical B2C
- Beds: 29
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4 (days and nights)
- Charge nurse present (no patient assignment)
- PCTs on days; 1 PCT or SWAT RN at night
- Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period (Sat/Sun days, Fri/Sat nights), plus 1 major and 1 minor holiday
- Scrub color: Navy
- Telemetry: GE monitors with central monitoring tech
- Ventilator patients: No
- Hospitalist must be called for physician orders
- No IV team; House SWAT nurse available for difficult IV sticks
- Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy available 24/7
- Shifts: 12 hours (7am-7pm)
- Floating: To MedSurg Tele C5 and B2D
- Orientation: 2 shifts floor-specific
- Common patients: General MedSurg patients requiring telemetry; Amio, Cardizem to titrate down only
- Additional: Spectralink phones; designated new grad training unit with clinical scholar mentorship for 4 weeks
- First to float; must work 2 of 3 major holidays

- Floating includes multiple units and campuses; travel time between campuses approx. 15 minutes
- Must clock out/in when moving between campuses
- Centralized telemetry monitoring requires strong EKG interpretation skills
- Pass/fail dysrhythmia exam and simulation lab required before and during orientation
- Weekend and holiday shift requirements apply
- Scrub color for all units: Navy
