Job Opportunity: Outpatient Pediatrics Registered Nurse
Location: San Francisco, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Work Schedule
- 8-hour day shifts
- Monday to Friday (flexible days, no weekends or UC holidays)
- Must be able to flex days of the week
- Ability to float to other UCSF facilities and units as needed
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- California Registered Nurse (RN) License
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Minimum 2 years of pediatric nursing experience, including pediatric diabetes education and knowledge of diabetes medications
Preferred Qualifications
- 1 year of ambulatory care experience
Certifications (Must be current and AHA-approved where applicable)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit assignment
Experience Requirements
- Specialty Experience: Minimum 2 years pediatric nursing experience (highest requirement)
- Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Current and valid driver’s license or government photo ID matching professional license
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, nationwide and sex offender searches, and education verification
- Primary source verification of RN license within 30 days of start
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including physician statement of fitness to work
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific mask types required)
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years, no declinations accepted without medical exemption)
- Two negative TB tests (PPD, QuantiFERON, or Tspot) with specific timing requirements
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (IGG titer or 2 vaccines)
- Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
- Varicella (IGG titer or 2 vaccines, history of disease not accepted)
- Flu seasonal vaccination or facility-specific declination (required during flu season)
- COVID-19 vaccination or approved exemption; booster 2 required for all travelers
Testing and Competency Exams
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (passing score 80%+) within 1 year of start
- Unit-specific competency exam (passing score 80%+) within 12 months of start
- Core Parts I, II, and III competency exams (passing score 80%+) within 1 year prior to start and updated annually
- Pass/fail Telemetry and Medication exams on first day of orientation (3 attempts allowed)
Additional Requirements
- Two supervisory references from most recent or second most recent employment
- Current and updated resume with last 7 years of work history; gaps of 30+ days must be explained
- Unit-specific skills checklist, updated annually
- Ability and willingness to float to other units and facilities within the UCSF system
Notes
- Candidates must complete required UCSF learning modules and facility-specific documents prior to or shortly after start
- COVID-19 related forms and exemptions must be submitted at least 2 weeks prior to start
- Background checks and license verifications must be current and approved before start date
This position offers a structured weekday schedule with no weekends or holidays, focused on outpatient pediatric care with an emphasis on diabetes education. The role requires a solid pediatric nursing background and flexibility to work across multiple UCSF facilities.
