Description
Registered Nurse – Neuro Telemetry
Location: Phoenix, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks (minimum)
Unit: Neuro Telemetry
Unit Size: 32 beds
Shift: 12-hour shifts, 7am to 7pm or 7pm to 7am
Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 8 weeks
Holidays: Worked into permanent holiday rotation
Patient Ratio: 1:4
EMR System: Cerner (experience required)
Charge Nurse: Yes, with light patient assignment
Nurse Aides: Day shift – 4 aides; Night shift – 3 aides (assist with BS, VS, straight catheter)
Tele Monitoring: Central monitoring; must be able to interpret EKG
Ventilators: No ventilator patients on this unit
Support Teams:
- IV Team (SWAT RN) available for difficult IV sticks
- Respiratory Therapy available 24/7
- Pharmacy available 24/7 (central)
Floating: Float to cardiac telemetry, telemetry overflow in ICU, and med-surg units
Orientation: 2 days floor-specific orientation
Common Diagnoses/Patient Types: - Tracheostomy patients
- Cerebrovascular accident (CVA)
- Traumatic brain injury (TBI)
- Spinal surgery
- Encephalopathy
- End-stage renal disease (ESRD)
- Psychiatric issues
- Brain tumors
Typical Medications Titrated: Heparin, Amiodarone, Cardizem
Length of Stay: Average 4-5 days
Work Environment: Fast-paced, high turnover unit with bedside report
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Arizona
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years telemetry experience, including telemetry experience within the last year
- One completed travel assignment
- Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
- Experience in Neuro ICU and Emergency Department (ED) settings
- Trauma experience
- BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications
- Experience with Cerner EMR system
Additional Notes
- Weekly orientations held on Mondays (except holiday weeks)
- Candidates cannot hold multiple contracts simultaneously with this employer
- Must have been off permanent staff at this employer for 12 months to be eligible for travel assignment
- Facility is a teaching hospital; nurses may be expected to work with nursing students
- Parking assigned with shuttle service to facility; night shift parking in garage
- Scrub color: Steel gray
- 50-mile radius rule applies for travel assignments
