Job Opportunity: Pediatric Ambulatory Care Nurse
Location: Oakland, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Day (5x8 Hours), 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Hours per Week: 40
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Provide pediatric ambulatory nursing care during day shifts in an 8-hour schedule.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 1 year of pediatric nursing experience within the last year
- Experience working with pediatric patients
- Ambulatory care experience
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- American Heart Association (AHA) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Orthopedics
Certifications & Competencies
- Pass/Fail Telemetry Exam required on first day (for applicable units)
- Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam with a passing score of 80% or higher (completed within 1 year prior to start)
- Unit-specific Competency Exam with a passing score of 80% or higher (completed within 12 months prior to start)
- Core Parts I, II, and III training with passing scores of 80% or higher, completed within 1 year prior to start and updated annually
- AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required depending on unit assignment (not required for PICU, NICU, and Pediatric units)
Background & Verification Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check including specific Bay Area counties and nationwide searches, completed within 30 days of start and renewed annually
- Education verification or copy of diploma/transcript acceptable
- Primary source license verification within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification for RN license within 30 days of start
- Drug screening (standard 9-panel excluding THC) within 30 days of start, renewed every 2 years
- Two supervisory references required, preferably from the most recent employment
- Current and updated resume covering last 7 years of work history with explanations for gaps of 30 days or more
- Unit-specific skills checklist updated annually
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start including physician statement of fitness to work
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific approved mask models required), updated annually
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years (declinations not accepted unless medically exempt)
- Two negative TB tests required: one within 1 year and one within 3 months of start (PPD, QuantiFERON, or Tspot)
- Annual TB questionnaire within 30 days of start
- Immunity or vaccination documentation required for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
- Varicella (IGG titer or 2 vaccines; history of disease not accepted)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or facility-specific declination required during flu season (Nov 1 – Apr 30)
- COVID-19 vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Completion of COVID-19 questionnaire no earlier than the Monday prior to start
- Review and initial COVID-19 preparedness and flu vaccine declination forms prior to start
- Completion of required learning modules through the facility’s Learning Management System ASAP after compliance clearance
- Completion of Cyber Security Awareness Training and Quiz annually with passing score of 80% or higher
- Completion of HIPAA Healthcare Provider Module and Quiz (for clinical staff) with passing score of 80% or higher
- Emergency contact information must be provided
Additional Notes
- Candidates must have a current and valid government-issued photo ID matching their professional license
- Religious and medical exemptions for COVID-19 vaccine require submission and approval at least 2 weeks prior to start
- Onsite fit testing available as a last resort for mask fit test failures
- Pass/Fail Telemetry exam required for nurses working in telemetry and critical care units
- Failure to pass required exams after three attempts may result in cancellation of assignment
