Registered Nurse - Surgical Specialty
Location
- Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Job Summary
Provide nursing care on a medical/surgical unit specializing in acute care surgical patients. Care includes patients pre- or post-surgery, including those with new drains, wounds, tracheostomies, ostomies, nasogastric tubes, or double lumen hemodialysis catheters. Some patients require stepdown care.
Shift & Hours
- 12-hour shifts
- Approximately 36 hours per week
- Patient-to-nurse ratios: 5:1 for surgical patients, 3:1 for stepdown area
Essential Responsibilities
- Manage an assigned group of patients with varying complexity
- Document patient responses to nursing interventions and physician orders
- Assist physicians with examinations and minor diagnostic procedures
- Monitor physiological data and intervene as necessary
- Administer medications, intravenous infusions, and blood products
- Communicate care plans with patients and families, including discharge instructions
- Make referrals for patient care needs
- Delegate tasks to support staff
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Oklahoma
- Minimum 1 year of Med Surg nursing experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Stepdown experience
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (or higher) from a board-approved program
- Experience with ENT and/or transplant patients
Additional Notes
- Candidates with operating room experience will not be accepted for this position.
