Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Telemetry Float Pool

Location: Chandler, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (12-hour shifts, 7pm–7am)
Hours per Week: 36


Job Overview

Seeking experienced RNs for a Telemetry Float Pool travel contract. Nurses will float frequently between multiple units and two campuses (9 miles apart), including Telemetry, MedSurg, ICU, Cath Lab, ER, and observation areas. Floating assignments may change mid-shift, with campus/unit notification 1.5 hours before shift start.


Units & Patient Types

CV Telemetry (B3A)

  • 32 beds, ratio 1:3-4
  • Patients: Post cath lab, post vascular procedures, day 2 CABG, general telemetry
  • Drips: Amiodarone, Cardene, Nitro, Heparin, Dobutamine (titrate down only)
  • No pediatrics (patients 15 years and older)
  • Centralized telemetry monitoring; RNs must interpret EKGs
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
  • Orientation: 2 days on floor

Neuro Telemetry (A3)

  • 28 beds, ratio 1:3-4
  • Patients: Neuro post-surgical, post craniotomy, spine, CVA post-TPA
  • Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
  • No ICP monitoring
  • Centralized telemetry monitoring; RNs must interpret EKGs
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
  • Orientation: 2 days on floor

Medical-Surgical (C5)

  • 32 beds (Ortho, Surgical, Oncology)
  • Ratio 1:4 days and nights
  • Patients: 80% surgical (including JCAHO-certified knee/hip program), 20% oncology
  • Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period (Sat/Sun days, Fri/Sat nights), plus one major and one minor holiday
  • Orientation: 2 shifts on floor

Medical-Surgical (B2C)

  • 29 beds, ratio 1:4 days and nights
  • Patients: General MedSurg requiring telemetry; Amiodarone, Cardizem (titrate down only)
  • New grad training unit with clinical scholar mentorship for 4 weeks
  • Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period (Sat/Sun days, Fri/Sat nights), plus one major and one minor holiday
  • Orientation: 2 shifts on floor

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Active Arizona RN license or compact license
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification required for Neuro Tele unit

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of current Telemetry nursing experience
  • Must be able to titrate cardiac drips confidently

Additional Requirements & Notes

  • Must pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to contract signing (maximum 2 attempts)
  • Pass/fail simulation lab on day 1 of orientation (failure results in contract termination and 6-month rehire restriction)
  • COVID-19 vaccine required or approved medical/religious declination documentation
  • Floating required across all Telemetry and MedSurg units, including between two campuses
  • Nurses must clock out/in when traveling between campuses
  • Weekend and holiday shift requirements apply as noted per unit
  • Centralized telemetry monitoring with RN EKG interpretation required on Tele units
  • No ventilator patients on Tele units; RT and pharmacy available 24/7
  • Charge nurses present on all units; they do not take patient assignments
  • Use of Spectralink phones (call light integrated) on MedSurg units

Staffing & Support

  • Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) assigned (1 per 16 patients) on Tele units
  • PCTs or Task RNs available on MedSurg units
  • Hospitalists available during day and on-call at night for Tele units; must call physician on MedSurg units
  • IV team not available; House SWAT nurse assists with difficult IV sticks

This position offers a dynamic float pool experience with diverse patient populations and requires strong telemetry skills, flexibility, and the ability to work independently across multiple units and campuses.
