Description

Registered Nurse (ED Holds/Telemetry) - Arizona, Chandler

Job Details

  • Location: Chandler, Arizona
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: Nights (7 PM - 7 AM)
  • Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
  • Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
  • Holiday Requirement: Must work 2 of 4 major holidays, rotating with permanent staff
  • Floating: May float to med/surg, telemetry, overflow units, and emergency departments as needed
  • Orientation: 2 shifts of orientation to Med/Surg/Telemetry at primary campus

Unit Information

  • Unit Type: ED Holds with Telemetry focus
  • Beds: 60 ED beds at primary campus
  • Patient Population: Patients held in ED waiting for inpatient placement, primarily medical-surgical and telemetry patients
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4
  • Support Staff: ED Patient Care Technicians available; no respiratory therapy equipment (vents, CPAP, BiPAP) on unit
  • Telemetry: Nurses must read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips; no monitor techs on unit

Required Qualifications

  • License: Registered Nurse (RN) license required
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years recent experience in cardiac telemetry nursing (within past 6 months)
  • Certifications: BLS and ACLS required; NIHSS certification (AHA or APEX) preferred
  • Skills:
    • Strong cardiac telemetry background
    • Ability to titrate cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Heparin, Amiodarone) per physician orders and parameters
    • Must pass a dysrhythmia exam within 48 hours of offer (maximum 2 attempts)
    • Pass/fail simulation lab on day one of orientation (study guides provided)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required

Additional Information

  • Nurses will care for more telemetry patients than medical-surgical patients
  • May assist with ED patient care tasks such as vital signs, IV starts, and medication administration but will not be primary RN for ED patient assignments
  • Dress code: Navy scrub color
  • No call or standby requirements
