Emergency Room Registered Nurse - Travel Contract

Location: Carmichael, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Seeking experienced Emergency Room (ER) Registered Nurses for a travel assignment at a 30-bed emergency department with 1 trauma bay (2 beds). This is a primary trauma center serving the area. The position involves 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend and holiday rotation.

Work Environment & Schedule

• Shift: Nights, 12-hour shifts starting at 6:45 PM
• Hours per week: 36
• Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 4 patients
• EMR system: Cerner
• Charge Nurse role included (generally does not take patients, provides break relief)
• Nurse aides available as needed
• Telemetry: Must be able to read and interpret EKG strips
• Ventilator patients present
• Hospitalist or Intensivist available in-house
• Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy available 24/7
• Floating: Occasional mid-shift float to other local facilities; floating to other Sacramento facilities possible
• Orientation: 1-2 days floor-specific orientation with preceptor
• Scrub color: Navy (under shirts must be navy, white, or black; scrub jackets optional but must be navy)
• Scheduling: Self-scheduling with manager final approval; schedules released 4 weeks in advance; block scheduling generally not available
• Overtime and extra shifts available; travelers can make themselves available for extra shifts and trade shifts with staff

Patient Population & Care

• Standard ED patients including trauma cases
• Psych holds managed with security if agitated

Requirements / Qualifications

• Valid RN license in California
• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, including experience within the last year
• Trauma experience
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) current certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Valid Driver's License

Additional Requirements & Notes

• Must pass a basic Dys exam through Relias within 24-48 hours prior to acceptance (2 attempts allowed) or provide proof of passing within the last 12 months
• Two supervisory references required: one within the last 12 months and one within the last 3 years
• Candidates must not have been directly employed (FT, PT, or PRN) by any associated facilities within the past year; PRN employment through outside firms is acceptable
• Valid government-issued ID required for name verification at time of submission

Weekend & Holiday Coverage

• Weekend: Every other weekend required
• Holidays: Rotate coverage with core staff
