Registered Nurse – Labor & Delivery/Postpartum
Location: Glendale, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
Seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery/Postpartum nurse for a travel contract in a hospital setting. The unit includes Labor & Delivery, Triage, and Postpartum beds with a high volume of births (~130 per month).
Unit Details
- Labor & Delivery Beds: 10
- Operating Rooms in L&D: 2
- Triage Beds: 2
- Postpartum Beds: 18
- Birth Volume: Approximately 130 births per month
- Fetal Monitoring System: Obix
- Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Cerner
- Nurse Aides/OB Tech: Scrub techs available on L&D only
- Charge Nurse: Shared between L&D and Postpartum
- Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy: Available 24/7
- Call Requirement: None
- Weekend Requirement: 4 shifts per 4-week period
- Holiday Requirement: 1 major and 1 minor holiday (major holidays include Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Year’s)
- Shifts: 12-hour shifts (7 AM, 11 AM, 7 PM)
- Night Shift Available
Patient Care & Ratios
- Nurse-to-patient ratios:
- 1:1 close to delivery
- 1:2 otherwise in L&D
- 1:4 in postpartum couplets
- Patient Types: Deliveries down to 23 weeks gestation, some high-risk patients including antepartum and hypertension cases
- Perinatology support available
- C-section experience required (scrub, recovery, and circulate roles)
Orientation & Floating
- Floor-specific orientation: 3 shifts
- Floating: Postpartum nurses typically do not float unless NICU experience; L&D nurses float to postpartum
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Active California RN License
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- Advanced AWHONN (Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses) certification including Advanced Fetal Monitoring (AFM)
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience
- Travel experience preferred but not explicitly required
Additional Notes
- No telemetry or ventilator patients on this unit
- No in-house OB/Neonatologist currently
- Scrub color provided
- First to float for night shifts every other weekend
